Under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and consistent with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a strategic partner and key member of the executive leadership team, responsible for stewarding the YMCA’s financial integrity, resilience, and sustainability.
As a thought leader and operational strategist, the CFO ensures that financial systems, capital planning, risk management, and business operations are aligned with the mission and long-term vision of the YMCA.
The ideal candidate brings a blend of strategic acumen, nonprofit financial expertise, systems thinking, and a deep commitment to community impact.
Qualifications
- Four-year degree in accounting or finance, preferably an MBA or CPA designation.
- Twelve to fifteen years of progressive financial management experience, including three to five years experience as a CFO or Divisional CFO for a sizable public or private company.
- Experience with business analytics.
- A proven record in the management of operations for multi-location entities capital planning, and real estate development, and strategic planning and execution.
- Deep knowledge of accounting fundamentals, financial processes and internal controls.
- Knowledge of capital structure and financing issues, experience with significant ($10M+) long-term borrowing and/or restructuring of such loans.
- Investment minded.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully negotiate with lenders, landlords, insurance carriers, and similar vendors whose work has organization-wide financial and operational impact.
- Familiarity with insurance programs and policies, as well as risk management strategies /programs.
- Ability to collaborate and build trust with employees, volunteer leadership and community.

Essential Functions
Strategic Leadership & Financial Stewardship
- Develop and implement multi-year financial strategies to support organizational growth, innovation, and sustainability.
- Provide transparent, accurate, and timely financial reporting to internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage real estate sales and acquisitions, ensuring legal, regulatory, and operational requirements are met while optimizing value for the Association.
- Direct the preparation of year-end audited financial statements and quarterly compiled reports; oversee audit and tax return (Form 990) preparation, ensuring compliance with IRS regulations and accounting standards.
Operational Excellence & Systems Leadership
- Lead and optimize the finance, real estate, and facilities, and risk teams to ensure efficient operations, strong internal controls, and scalable infrastructure.
- Modernize systems and processes to enhance data integrity, digital agility, and decision-making capabilities.
- Serve as a senior advisor on capital projects, real estate, vendor management, and investment strategy.
- Oversee the development and implementation of the Association’s Deferred Maintenance Program and capital improvement planning processes.
- Oversee all risk management functions, including insurance, legal compliance, internal controls, and incident response.
- Champion proactive risk identification, mitigation, and crisis response planning across the enterprise.
Mission Alignment & Cross-Functional Partnership
- Collaborate with the executive team to ensure financial and operational decisions support mission outcomes.
- Translate financial information for diverse audiences to build financial literacy and ownership across the organization.
Board Engagement & Governance
- Staff the Finance Committee of the Board; ensure clear and timely communication on financial matters, endowment management, and long-term asset strategies.
- Support Board education and engagement on financial health, investment strategy, and long-term planning.
- Represent the Association in the community and external stakeholder engagements.
