Rebuilding Together of Greater Charlote (RTGC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a mission of repairing homes, revitalizing communites, and rebuilding lives. RTGC brings our community together to address the affordable housing crisis, mobilizing contractors and volunteers from across the region to complete projects that make homes and communites safer and healthier for our neighbors.
Positon Summary
The Director of Development and Communicatons is responsible for leading and executng a comprehensive fundraising and communicatons strategy to advance the mission of RTGC. This role focuses on identifying, cultivating, and securing corporate sponsorships, charitable and corporate foundaron grants, and individual giving, while also overseeing marketing, communications, and public relations efforts to increase awareness and engagement.
This position reports to the Executive Director and is a hybrid role.
Additionally, this role supervises the Volunteer & Events Manager and a part-time graduate fellow, ensuring the effective execution of fundraising events, volunteer engagement, and external communications.
Key Responsibilities
Corporate Sponsorship & Partnerships (35%)
- Update and implement a corporate sponsorship strategy to secure funding and in-kind contributions from businesses.
- Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward corporate partners, ensuring alignment with their CSR goals and marketing objectives.
- Create compelling sponsorship proposals and customized partnership packages.
- Work closely with the marketing and communications team to ensure sponsorship visibility and benefits are fulfilled.
- Track and report sponsorship deliverables, ensuring a high level of engagement and retention.
Foundation Grants & Philanthropic Giving (20%)
- Identify and pursue charitable and corporate foundation grants to support RTGC’s programs and operations.
- Develop compelling grant proposals, working closely with the Executive Director and operations team to align funding requests with program needs.
- Ensure timely grant reporting, working with the operations team to collect financial and impact data for funders.
- Research and cultivate relationships with foundation leaders and grant-making organizations.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director, who leads government grants and contracts, to ensure a cohesive funding strategy.
Marketing & Communications (20%)
- Develop and execute a strategic communications plan to increase awareness of RTGC’s impact.
- Oversee branding, messaging, and storytelling across all platforms, ensuring a consistent and compelling voice.
- Manage RTGC’s website, social media, newsleters, and press outreach to engage donors, volunteers, and the community.
- Develop marketing materials, including annual reports, donor impact reports, and fundraising collateral.
- Work with the Volunteer & Events Manager to promote corporate volunteer engagement and fundraising events.
- Serve as the primary media contact, overseeing public relations efforts to increase RTGC’s visibility.
Fundraising & Donor Stewardship (10%)
- Collaborate with the Executive Director and board members to set and achieve annual revenue goals.
- Identify and cultivate new revenue opportunities, including cause marketing campaigns, matching gift programs, and employee giving initiatives.
- Support efforts to increase individual and major gifts from volunteers and supporters.
- Maintain accurate records in the donor database and provide reports on fundraising progress.
Supervision & Team Leadership (10%)
- Serve as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, collaborating closely with the Director of Construction, Director of Operations, Executive Director, and board of directors to develop and execute the overall strategy and operations for the organization.
- Supervise and support the Volunteer & Events Manager to ensure successful execution of fundraising events and corporate volunteer engagement initiatives.
- Manage and mentor a part-time graduate fellow, providing guidance on development operations and donor stewardship activities.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability within the development and communications team.
Events & Donor Engagement (5%)
- Lead sponsorship efforts for fundraising events, ensuring corporate engagement and revenue targets are met.
- Plan and execute donor cultivation events, networking opportunities, and site visits to engage corporate partners.
- Ensure meaningful donor stewardship, acknowledging contributions and fostering long-term relationships.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications, Nonprofit Management, Marketing, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in fundraising, corporate partnerships, and marketing/communications, preferably in the nonprofit sector.
- Proven track record of securing corporate sponsorships.
- Strong leadership and supervisory experience, with a commitment to coaching and mentoring staff.
- Excellent storytelling, branding, and public relations skills.
- Strong relationship-building, communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Experience in grant writing, event sponsorship, donor cultivation, and CRM database management.
- Strong customer service background and mindset, including compassion and the ability to work with diverse individuals.
Compensation & Benefits
- This is a full-time exempt position with a starting salary range between $70,000-80,000, depending on experience.
- Incentive compensation up to 5% of annual salary based on KPIs.
- RTGC offers health, dental, vision, and life insurance, paid vacation, holidays, sick leave, and a 4% matching 401(k) fully vested after one year.
