About Us

Founded in 2011, Lettuce Box Inc. is a small but mighty team revolutionizing the logistics industry with our innovative veroFresh platform. As a trusted partner to global food distributors, we provide real-time monitoring solutions that safeguard the quality and safety of perishable goods in transit.

At Lettuce Box, our mission is simple: we create elegant, technology-driven solutions to solve large-scale logistical challenges. Beyond logistics, we are dedicated to sustainability, helping our clients reduce carbon emissions and build a greener future.

Why Lettuce Box?

  • Make a Direct Impact: Be part of a small, dynamic team where your work truly shapes the future of global logistics and sustainability.
  • Growth Opportunities: We’re committed to your development, offering you the tools and support to grow alongside the company.
  • Mission-Driven: Join a company that not only innovates in logistics but is also committed to reducing environmental impact for a sustainable world.

Our Core Values

Our core values are the principles we live by and hold ourselves to every day. They guide our actions and decisions, reflecting what we believe in and who we strive to be as a company

Honesty: We tell the truth and provide all relevant information. We question decisions and actions inconsistent with our values. We encourage open and effective communication between ourselves and others.

Ownership: We take ownership of tasks, projects, problems, and responsibilities. We focus on solutions, not problems. We quickly admit mistakes. We make tough decisions and take effective action.

Respect: We treat peers, subordinates, customers, vendors, and all others with respect. We respect others’ time and ideas. We acknowledge the good work of others.

Drive: We have a drive to continually better ourselves and the business. We are self-starters who seek to continuously improve our understanding of our strategy, market, customers, and suppliers. We look not only to solve problems at hand but also to seek new areas of opportunity.

Smart Risks: We accept failure as a sometimes necessary step to success. We are willing to take chances. We commit to lofty, but achievable, goals.

About the Role

We are looking for a Head of Engineering to provide technical leadership, hands-on development, and strategic direction across our engineering efforts. This role blends technical execution with team leadership, making it ideal for someone who still enjoys writing code but is also experienced in building and scaling high-performing engineering teams.

We’re looking for a leader who can bring clarity, structure, and momentum to our development process — someone who’s passionate about mentoring engineers, implementing scalable systems, and helping drive innovation, including the integration of AI/ML capabilities. You’ll help shape both the technology roadmap and the engineering culture as we continue to evolve our platform and expand our impact in the logistics space. You’ll be joining a small company with a lean engineering team, so your contributions will have a direct and visible impact from day one.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide technical leadership and team management across all engineering initiatives
  • Architect and guide development of full-stack systems (Yii, Vue.js)
  • Mentor and grow the engineering team, including performance feedback, coaching, and hiring
  • Implement and own Scrum or similar Agile development processes
  • Lead engineering cadences: sprint planning, standups, retrospectives, backlog grooming
  • Define and enforce engineering standards for code quality, testing, and documentation
  • Collaborate closely with product and operations to align engineering with business priorities
  • Own and improve DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure (Docker, Jenkins, AWS, Puppet)
  • Develop a roadmap for incorporating AI/ML capabilities into the platform
  • Balance technical debt with long-term platform scalability and maintainability

What We’re Looking For

  • 8+ years of full stack development experience (PHP and JavaScript required; Yii and Vue preferred)
  • 5+ years of engineering leadership in a startup or fast-paced environment
  • Proven success in building, managing, and scaling small engineering teams
  • Hands-on experience implementing Scrum or similar Agile methodologies
  • Strong experience with REST APIs, CI/CD, cloud infrastructure (AWS), and containerized environments (Docker)
  • Excellent communicator and collaborator — able to bridge technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Strategic thinker who can balance near-term delivery with long-term architecture
  • Comfortable working in ambiguous, early-stage environments
  • Bonus: Experience integrating AI/ML solutions or managing AI/ML teams

Nice to Have

  • Experience with ElasticSearch/OpenSearch
  • Background in logistics, supply chain, or real-time sensor-based platforms
  • Familiarity with MySQL performance tuning and optimization

Details

  • Full-time W2 role
  • U.S.-based candidates only
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Must be able to work U.S. business hours

How to Apply:

  • Send an email with your resume to apply@lettucebox.com
