Position impact

The Enterprise Strategy and Planning team is a forward-looking arm of the Enterprise Strategy and Risk organization. The primary purpose of this role is to support the development and execution of the company’s strategy on delivering reliable, affordable, and increasingly clean energy to our customers and communities where we operate. This position works within the Enterprise Strategy team to develop and deliver multi-year business strategies and delivery of key initiatives.

Position Summary

The Enterprise Strategy and Planning Director facilitates the development, communication and integration of the company’s enterprise strategy across multiple business functions collaborating effectively to ensure the alignment of business objectives, financial targets and regulatory/policy outcomes as well as leads cross-functional, roadmap-driven Strategic Initiatives in aligned with the priorities set by the leadership of Enterprise Strategy and Planning.

The Enterprise Strategy and Planning Director collaborates cross-functionally with and influences VP, and director-level stakeholders and their support functions to accelerate strategic business initiatives while providing regular updates and status to Executive Leadership Team (ELT) regarding strategy initiatives in order to drive focus and accountability throughout the organization. This role will translate specific strategic initiatives into project plans – owning the development and delivery of project workplans, using a data and hypothesis-driven approach to develop, execute and deliver.

The Enterprise Strategy and Planning Director will independently performs advanced, complex research and analysis, and synthesizes insights into meaningful recommendations. As well as structure and present impactful, highly visible executive-level presentations summarizing actionable insights and recommendations.

A candidate for this role must possess an ability to meet a variety of nonroutine challenges, exceptional communications skills, a foundational knowledge of utility operations, a command of strategic analysis concepts, and a working knowledge of financial analysis concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Works with executive leadership and cross-functional business teams to develop and deliver multi-year business strategies, including project-based management of key strategic initiatives. Collaborates in the development of financial analysis and special studies to support strategic planning and development of regulatory strategies.
  • Monitors and reports on industry and other external trends with the potential to affect the company strategy. Provides research, competitive insight, and establishes informed perspectives on applicable innovation and emerging trends.
  • Provides consultation, facilitation and oversight of various management systems and governance structures for effective decision making.
  • Supports the development of internal and external plans to effectively communicate the enterprise strategy with employees, the Board and key external stakeholders.

Basic/Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum 8 years Required Related Work Experience

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility.
  • 3 days in office

Preferred Qualifications

  • Foundational knowledge of energy industry
  • Regulatory expertise and a command of strategic analysis concepts
  • Working knowledge of financial analysis concepts and quantitative modeling
  • Demonstrated leadership in facilitating knowledge transfer within a matrixed organization
  • Ability to meet a variety of non-routine challenges
  • Exceptional communications and collaboration skills
  • Working knowledge of sensitivity analysis and forecasting
  • Prior exposure to conducting industry, market or energy products research and evaluation of emerging technologies
  • Ability to translate complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Strong internal and external network of contacts
  • 10+ years relevant experience, including experience in quantitative analysis and/or strategic planning
  • Demonstrated research experience using primary and secondary resources
  • Ability to gather input from multiple stakeholders and build it into a single, cohesive vision and plan
  • Experience in reading model outputs, research data, etc. and interpreting actionable results
