Job Summary

The VP of Sales and Executive Director of Visit Charlotte is responsible for oversight of the sales effort in pursuit of conventions, meetings, sports events, and special events that impact the CRVA as well as the hospitality industry in a 16-county region. Also includes responsibilities of Destination Services group that ensures all events are successful through coordination with various departments in the CRVA, the City of Charlotte, and various business partners.

Oversight of Visitor Information department with various locations, the Charlotte Regional Film Commission, and the Venue Sales team for short term business in all CRVA facilities. Leadership of Partners in Tourism program that provides engagement with our community partners. In collaboration with Chief Communication and Advocacy Officer, stay active in advocacy relationships throughout the state of NC as well with national efforts such as US Travel Association and others. 

(1) Essential Job Duties

    • Collaborates with Marketing/Branding and Communications/Advocacy departments to develop strategies and business initiatives that supports sales goals. 
    • Manages and controls annual operating budgets for programs and services, and tracks spending and revenue targets.  Executes any necessary corrective action to meet budget goals.
    • Supports the Convention Center, Bojangles’ Coliseum & Ovens Auditorium (BOPlex) sales teams in their efforts to secure business by developing effective sales strategies.
    • Meet with customers regularly to assist with booking business for not only hotels but for members of our Partners In Tourism. 
    • Direct, participate and counsel all sales efforts to develop and accomplish business goals as well as individual developmental goals. 
    • Partner with all departments to develop successful strategies and business initiatives for the benefit of the CRVA and the hospitality community. 
    • Recommends and implements ongoing service improvements and makes recommendations to executive and senior leaders regarding strategic direction of CRVA’s programs and services.
    • Collaborates with CEO and Chief Communications & Advocacy Officer on advocacy matters including working with national, state and local elected officials to educate them on issues, policies, laws, and other impacts to the hospitality industry at all levels.
    • Participates and is active in various industry associations to promote and protect tourism industry as an important economic impact and job creation engine. 
    • Regularly analyze competitor activity and market trends to assess our competitive position and lead the development and execution of targeted sales strategies and initiatives to strengthen market share and drive revenue growth. Analyze sales statistics to determine sales potential and monitor the preferences of customers.
    • Communicates with leadership and staff to instill professionalism and behavior that drives top notch customer experiences.
    • Fosters a climate of innovation and collaboration with all CRVA departments and builds strategic partnerships with community-based organizations.
    • Ensure that all employees work in a manner that follows all core values of the CRVA. 
    • Ensure that employees are fully trained so they can perform their jobs at the highest level not only for the company’s satisfaction but for their own satisfaction and growth.
    • Ensure that each employee has a “Roadmap” updated quarterly.   
    • May perform other duties as required. 

    (2) Consistently deliver the best in customer service.  Promote building great customer partnerships and highly performing teams to achieve the CRVA Net Promoter Score by living the Service Philosophy, driving continuous improvement strategy within the organization and community, to deliver memorable customer experiences.

      Scope of Responsibility

      • This job is responsible for budgetary development, management, analysis, and review.
      • This job will have periodic access to confidential data including financial statements, company records, and company strategic plans, and/or programs

      Leadership Responsibility

      • Manages five subordinate supervisors who lead a total of more than 45 employees. 
      • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
      • Monitor sales metrics and performance. Deploy sales team and resources effectively to achieve maximum success. 

      Knowledge and Skill Requirements

      • Must have the technical knowledge of hospitality businesses and how those businesses operate
      • Ability to analyze research to anticipate the needs of the CRVA and hospitality industry and develop strategies and tactics to address them. 
      • Must have business acumen to make solid business deals that are beneficial to the CRVA and overall industry. 
      • Must have knowledge of membership-based program that fills the needs of the members and creates a collaborative environment of mutual support among the partners. Builds positive relationships with customers, Partners, elected officials and general public. 
      • Treats all with the highest degree of respect, professionalism, and courtesy, delivers exceptional service to internal and external customers and Partners.

      Education and Experience

      • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent from accredited college or university is required; and ten (10) plus years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
      • To perform this job successfully, qualified applicants should have advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

      Travel Required

      • This job will require local, state, and national travel with some possible international travel.
