The City of Charlotte is seeking a Chief Operating Officer who will provide executive oversight of all operational functions at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT).
This key leadership role ensures operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and a seamless experience for millions of passengers each year. The COO is instrumental in driving CLT’s vision for efficiency, safety, and innovation across all facets of airport operations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Oversee all aspects of airport operations, including security, safety, airfield, terminal, and emergency management.
- Establish departmental goals, policies, and priorities to advance operational performance.
- Collaborate with the CEO and executive peers to enhance capacity and optimize service delivery.
- Ensure compliance with FAA, TSA, and City of Charlotte regulations and policies.
- Maintain effective relationships with airlines, tenants, regulatory agencies, and public safety partners.
- Represent CLT with industry organizations such as AAAE and ACI-NA.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in aviation management, business, public administration, or a related field plus seven (7) years’ experience; master’s degree plus five (5) years’ experience preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible airport operations experience, including at least five years at an executive or director level.
- Proven ability to manage budgets exceeding $65M and lead multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong knowledge of FAA and TSA regulations, emergency response protocols, and large-scale airport systems.
Salary & Compensation
The starting salary range for this position is $212,613 – $248,048 depending on experience.
An exceptional candidate may be eligible to receive a starting salary slightly above range with approvals. There is an attractive benefits package and relocation assistance.
