Hello Thursday. I’m back! I didn’t know it was possible, but Sea Island may be a more expensive vacation than Blackberry Farm. Whew.
After a long day of dominating my children in boogie boarding, I ordered a Tropicalia draft IPA and tequila drink from the Beach Club bar — total was $37.
In return, I made sure the entire family went to The Cloister’s solarium at 3pm each day for the free freshly baked cookies and lemonade located by the bird cages. Crushed it. Anyways.

Danni and Drew Chalfant, owners of the HAWKs franchise’s NC territories
| |
Concept: HAWKs (Hiking Adventures With Kids) is a private equity-backed franchise offering outdoor day camps and after-school adventures for kids.
-
Parents pay about $20 per hour for a day camp. Weekly options start at $425.
-
"We've seen first-hand the transformative power of the outdoors on our children," says Drew, who’s a lawyer by day.
Investment: $90K to $129K in startup costs. $30K franchise fee. 7.5% royalty. There's no brick-and-mortar location, just “Venture Vans” to transport kids.
Hot start: Danni leads field operations. She started HAWKs camps the day after CMS let out.
-
"We had a full Venture Van load of kids on the trail with us for both of our opening days!!”
-
Drew told me that there's a clear path to $1M in annual revenue, just in Lake Norman.
Growth: "We've already gone back to HAWKs and secured the territory rights for most of North Charlotte," says Drew.
