Position Summary:

The Head Brewer is responsible for all brewing operations at Town Brewing Co., ensuring consistent product quality, production efficiency, and adherence to safety and regulatory standards.

This role oversees daily brewhouse and cellar operations, supervises the brewery staff, and collaborates closely with the Director of Operations to execute production goals aligned with sales forecasts and company strategy.

The Head Brewer plays a key leadership role in maintaining product integrity, operational discipline, and strong external production partnerships.

This position reports directly to the Director of Operations.

Position Responsibilities

Brewing Operations & Quality Control:

  • Oversee all wort production, fermentation, conditioning, and cellar operations
  • Maintain strict quality control standards across all brands and batches
  • Manage yeast health, lab procedures, and fermentation schedules
  • Ensure consistency of core brands while supporting new recipe development
  • Maintain detailed production logs and complete all required regulatory reporting (TTB/state)
  • Uphold brewery cleanliness, organization, and safety standards

Production Planning & Inventory Management:

  • Execute production schedule in coordination with Director of Operations
  • Forecast and manage raw material inventory including malt, hops, yeast, and chemicals
  • Track production efficiencies and manage COGS within approved budgets
  • Coordinate packaging timelines to ensure finished product availability
  • Monitor seasonality and inventory levels to prevent shortages or overproduction

Contract & White Label Coordination:

  • Maintain professional relationships with contract brewing and white label partners
  • Coordinate production timelines, product specifications, and quality standards with external partners
  • Ensure brand integrity and formulation control across all externally produced products
  • Assist with quality verification and oversight of partner-produced products

Equipment & Facility Maintenance:

  • Oversee preventative maintenance of brewhouse and cellar equipment
  • Coordinate repairs and service as needed
  • Assist with facility upkeep to ensure operational readiness

Position Operations and Schedule:

Operational Oversight:

  • Lead and participate in daily brewing operations
  • Supervise daily workflow of the brewery staff
  • Promote accountability, efficiency, and operational discipline
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and alcohol regulatory requirements
  • Resolve operational challenges efficiently and professionally

Schedule & Travel:

  • Predominant working hours are Monday through Friday
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings, weekends, and events as needed
  • Occasional industry events, festivals, or supplier meetings may be required

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 55 lbs
  • Ability to work in hot, cold, wet, and physically demanding environments
  • Ability to stand for extended periods

Position Requirements:

Education & Experience:

  • Degree: Brewing Science, Biology, Chemistry, or related field preferred, or equivalent experience
  • Experience: Minimum 3–5 years professional brewing experience required
  • Leadership Experience: Supervisory experience preferred
