Homepros is an early-stage digital media company covering the multi-billion dollar U.S. HVAC industry. We publish business news, analysis, and commentary in a 3x/week email newsletter and online, serving an audience of contracting business owners, executives, and managers.

The home service industries, including HVAC, are facing a wave of impactful developments, including technology changes, government regulation, and consolidation, driving the need for operators to stay up to speed with better, more relevant, and more efficient news coverage.

We’re seeking an entrepreneurial journalist to become our first full-time reporter, writing stories and helping to shape our editorial strategy as we scale our publication’s audience and revenue, both of which have grown triple-digits over the past 12 months, and expand into additional verticals, such as plumbing, electrical, and roofing.

In this role, you will:

• Write and edit news stories
• Conduct research and produce in-depth, original stories and analysis
• Author our flagship 3x/week email newsletter, which includes two feature stories per email, averaging 250-300 words per story
• Aggregate relevant stories from around the web to include in other sections of our newsletter
• Develop and engage a source network of industry professionals to fuel news coverage
• Travel to industry events and chase down scoops to break stories before other outlets
• Contribute to the editorial strategy of our existing HVAC publication, along with Plumbing, our next publication
• Help grow and engage our community of readers

We’re looking for someone who:

• Wants to be a part of and play a key role in growing and developing an early-stage startup, with opportunities to lead and grow a team of reporters
• Thrives in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment and can be flexible with hours when news breaks or opportunities arise
• Can write clean, concise, accurate copy on a deadline, and has excellent news judgment and a keen eye for detail
• Has at least two years of reporting experience, ideally in B2B (preferred but not required — hunger and skill are valued over experience)
• Is located in the Charlotte, NC area (preferred but not a dealbreaker)
• Most importantly, wants to work hard and win

Compensation:

• Salary: $60,000+/-
• Equity via stock options
