Hello Thursday. OMG, Oshen is such a vibe. I went there on Sunday night. Absolutely slammed. Buzzing. I felt like I was in Miami, not a South Charlotte strip center!!

Did I need the tabletop sake dispenser and $75 Nigiri Canoe? Of course I did. And their $8.50 Edamame with ponzu and chili garlic is a top 10 dish in Charlotte.

Congrats to owners Anthony, Randy, and Cinthya on creating something truly unique. Somehow they’ve managed to thread the needle of suburban family sushi spot and vibey night-club. Anyways.

Amber and Dean open the perfect neighborhood restaurant in Plaza Shamrock

Now open: PostScript, a neighborhood restaurant from Amber Donoghue and Dean Orr, quietly opened a few weeks ago in the former Letty’s space.

It’s buzzy. My 11-year-old son and I went on Tuesday night. By the time we left at 6:30pm, every seat was taken.

Badass move: Instead of the typical press release and influencer night, Amber and Dean opened PostScript by turning on a “Sincerely Open” neon window sign and texting neighbors.

Tiny take: In a town filled with trendy, new restaurants (ex, Uchi), I can’t help but admire Amber and Dean’s lowkey approach to becoming a neighborhood staple.

It warmed by heart to watch Amber buy an 80-year-old couple an anniversary drink at the bar.

The 1,627-square-foot space with seating for 50 inside was immediately slammed. $0 spent on advertising.

Bootstrapped: 33-year-old couple Nikki Velazquez and fiancé Eric Flanigan invested around $225K to open the business.

Nikki is an experienced hospitality leader who helped open Charlotte Beer Garden and Tipsy Pickle.
Eric kept his day job as the Head of ETF Capital Markets for an investment firm.

Build in public: Nikki posts behind the scenes, diary-like updates to their 5,400 Instagram followers. "Transparency builds trust," says Nikki.

Why now: "We're both in our 30s, which feels like the perfect moment to dive into this," explained Nikki. "Enough experience to understand the risks, but prepared to take them on."

At last night’s media preview, I ate their signature $22 lasagna and $18 burger. Delicious.
