Hello Thursday. I spent last week on a family vacation in Linville, NC. I played 5 glorious golf rounds at Linville Golf Club with my two older kids.
My 10-year-old son beat me for the first time, shooting a legit 78. But I beat my brother-in-law Trevor in our annual golf match. Fun to shame him in front of all 9,701 of you!! You stink, Trevor!!
We also took a day trip to Tweetsie Railroad which set our family of 5 back $265 👀 — although I love it there.
On the 2-hour car ride home I told my wife it’s the best vacation I’ve ever had with our 3 children. A few minutes later, my iPhone vibrated with my screen time recap of 1hr 27mins per day for the week, a record low. Coincidence? Anyways.

Dyn-o-mite Chicken Mac & Cheese ($14), sneaky delicious

I was the first customer on Monday when the Painted Rooster opened in Plaza Midwood. Their team took my photo, not knowing I was a big time blogger 😂!
-
"The wings, tenders, nugs and chicken sandwiches are so good, they're a Hootenanny!" said co-founder Zach Current (49), who also started Moo & Brew.
Surprising start: Chicken Wontons ($9) have already become a fan favorite. Choose buffalo or bacon ranch.
Aggressive order: I weirded out the new waiter when I ordered Rooster Style Chicken Wings ($11), Carolina Crispy Chicken Salad ($15), Anchor Buffalo Chicken Wrap ($15), 3 Chicken Tenders ($6), and Dyn-o-mite Chicken Mac & Cheese ($14).
-
I thought the mac and cheese with buffalo chicken tenders on top was going to be gimmicky, but it’s delicious.
-
Salads have fancy hydroponic lettuce and they’re served in big silver bowls. Very fresh.
Tiny take: I’ll be back. When I do, I’ll order the Anchor Buffalo Chicken Wrap again.

GROWTH MODE
32-year-old quits job at Facebook to start women's golf brand — on pace for "mid 6-figures" revenue
Blair Hedley, UGA grad who previously worked at Facebook and KPMG
"I discovered golf post-pandemic with my now-husband," Blair told me. "I was frustrated by either 'shrink-it-and-pink-it' or granny-floral options that never fit."
-
So Blair took $100K in savings and started Beldrie, a high performance women's apparel brand for golf, tennis, and pickleball.
Growth: The stylish brand currently averages 200 orders per month. Revenue is up 500% YoY and will hit "mid-6-figures" this year.
-
Fully bootstrapped. No outside investors.
-
Sold out our entire debut collection in just 4 months.
-
Bestsellers are the award winning $78 top and $88 elevated skort.
Unit economics: "Consistent 65% gross profit margin, fueled by premium fabrics and direct-to-consumer pricing."
Secret sauce: Given her Facebook experience, Blair created an ambassador program that's delivering 3.5X ROAS (return on ad spend), with 100+ brand ambassadors driving reviews, UGC, and community growth.
Market size: "People often underestimate the size of the women’s golf apparel market — it’s actually a $3-billion-plus category on its own."
What's next: Blair's looking for a co-founder to help scale as demand booms. "I’m running Beldrie full-time as a mom to a 4-month-old, turning nap windows into work blocks."

Money Talks is a weekly series showcasing how real people in Charlotte approach money. Participate.
Job: "I'm a technology product manager. I make $246K. My husband makes $160K."
Salary advice: "Talk to people about your salary! I used to think $100k was the most I could make. Until I heard of people making $200K, $500K, $1M. And switching jobs every few years early in your career can do wonders."
Best money decision: "Buying in Plaza Shamrock back in 2020. We wanted to be in NoDa/Plaza Midwood, but couldn't afford it. We recently moved over to the Camp North End area and kept our first home as a cash-flowing rental. Rent is $2,850/mo and mortgage is $1,910/mo."
Net worth: "About $860K. We’ve got $30K in cash, $550K in investments, and home equity of about $300K."
Retirement: “Stretch goal is $4M in net worth (joint with my husband) by age 40 and work-optional at that point. I'd love to own a business.”
