Hello Thursday. I went to the Hornets vs Wizards game on Monday night and I bet the Spectrum Center was only 10% full. Yikes.
With so few in attendance, my 10 year old and I made it on the jumbotron 3 times (thank you Braxton Winston!), caught a Hornets mini basketball, and got a free caramel popcorn bag from a Honey Bee cheerleader.
On the other hand, I went to the Latin vs Country Day high school basketball game the following night and it was absolutely electric.

THE LEAD
The Health Club opens with memberships sold out (389 on the waitlist 🤯) — and only spent $1,000 on marketing
Addy Collett, Founder & CEO
OMG!! 29 year old founder Addy Collett (12.7K Instagram followers) just pulled off a grand opening masterclass — and only spent $1,000 on Instagram ads.
-
"We focused on organic marketing, raw updates in real time, and getting founding members involved," Addy told me. "Also, there is clearly a genuine need for an upscale 'all in one' gym in Charlotte."
Now open: The Health Club opened on Monday in Oakhurst.
-
The 18,000 square foot facility features an open gym with top-of-the-line equipment, mezzanine level with bootcamp/pilates classrooms, and luxury locker rooms with dry saunas and eucalyptus steam rooms.
-
It also has a co-ed cold plunge and hot tub area (spicy!).
Back of the napkin math: Assuming 1,800 members at an average of $210/mo, that's nearly $400K/mo in recurring revenue. Let's say her rent is $55K/mo ($35/sqft) and payroll is $60K/mo. That’s an incredible business, even if the build out is in the $6M range (my guess).
Second location: "We are always on the hunt for new spaces, but currently laser focused on providing the best experience," Addy said.

PRESENTED BY SWITCHYARDS
Switchyards work club costs $100/mo — I couldn't afford not to become a member
I'm a Switchyards Oakhurst member and I love it
Switchyards must hate profit because it's only $100 per month. It's a wild coworking deal, IMO.
-
24/7 access with lightning fast internet. Easy parking.
-
Unlimited free Night Swim coffee and Rishi tea.
-
Beautiful design. I've googled where they get their long wooden tables (custom made unfortunately).
-
You'll have access to both Charlotte clubs (with more to come). Membership also gets you into all their other 20+ locations.
Offer: Join Switchyards and use code TINY50 for $50 off your first month (limited availability)

SIDE HUSTLE DIARIES

Management consultant Elizabeth Anne Russell debuts etiquette classes — most sell out

Elizabeth Anne Russell, a third generation etiquette coach
My children are 4, 7, and 10 and my wife has been telling me we need to sign them up for Charlotte School of Etiquette, the brainchild of Elizabeth Anne Russell.
-
In just 4 months, Elizabeth Anne has sold out several etiquette courses and racked up 3,500 Instagram followers (I love her Monday tips!).
-
5 out of 10 spring courses are already sold out. Courses consist of 3 in-person classes and cost $225.
Not stuffy: "To me, The heart of etiquette is a way of showing others honor and respect," explained Elizabeth Anne, an MBA grad and strategy consultant at Wells Fargo.
Keeping it fun: "Children LOVE games. For example, we race to set the table and we laugh at ‘dead fish’ when we shake hands."
What's next: Plans this year include launching a sister company, Mannerly Paper, which will offer custom thank you notes for children and connecting with a non profit to teach classes pro bono. I'm bullish.

Money Talks is a weekly series showcasing how real people in Charlotte approach money. Participate.
Living situation: “I own my place. I bought a condo in 2021 during the COVID craze. It was my best money decision. I put in an offer sight unseen and above asking. My mortgage is about $1,200 (at a 2.5% rate) plus $340 in HOA fees.”
Other income: “I decorate cakes as a hobby and occasionally sell one for $50-$100. I might make around $500 a year.”
Budgeting: “I use EveryDollar to track my budget. I once read that every multibillion dollar company keeps a budget, so why shouldn’t I?”
Net worth: “$270K. I max out my Roth 401k and my HSA. Additionally, I try to save an average of $800/mo. 22 year old me, who moved here with only what would fit in my Nissan Altima, would have never imagined.”
Retirement: “My goal is to retire from corporate America around 45 and maybe even open a café.”
‘Rich’ in Charlotte: “A lot of people live above their means and are actually barely making it in Charlotte.”
